Can I play my own games?

You may install any games that you own from Steam, Battle.net or Epic.

Are the games free to play?

Most games are free to play; some can be played using your own Steam login, and others require the use of a visitor account that will be provided on check-in. Please see the Games Menu below for further information.

Are there controllers provided?

An Xbox controller is provided to use with the PC.

What games are on the computer?

We maintain a list of some of the most popular games such as Fortnite, Apex Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and DOTA 2 along with a selection of the latest realeases like Mortal Kombat 1, FC24, Starfield Premium Edition. We are also supporting locally developed indie games for example the award winning Untitled Goose Game, Stray Gods and Cult of the Lamb. Can I use the computer for things other than gaming?

You can use the computer for any legal activities, there are standard Windows 11 home applications installed, and if you have a Microsoft 365 account, you can sign into this or utilise the screens, keyboard, and mouse with your own laptop.

How is my privacy protected?

The computer is completely wiped and reinstalled after each guest checks out in order to remove personal data. There are webcam covers to protect your privacy. There is remote access software installed in case of technical issues. However, your permission will be sought before utilising this unless there is reasonable suspicion of illicit activity.

What if I experience technical difficulties?

If there are any issues that arise during your stay, contact our friendly reception staff. If they cannot troubleshoot the issue, there is IT support on call for further troubleshooting.

Can I play the Nintendo Switch in handheld mode?

No – for security reasons the Nintendo can only be played on the TV within the room.

Can I play my own games on the Nintendo Switch?

Yes – you may log into your own account and install your own games if you wish.

What kind of controllers are provided?

There are 4 x Nintendo Switch Pro controllers provided as well as 2 x Joycon.

We have loaded a range of classics such as Mario Kart, Golden Eye and Sonic 1 & 2, as well as some of the latest games, such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! Please see our Games Menu below for details; this list is updated frequently.

Can I book the room for by the hour?

At present, we do not offer day-use, and the room is only available overnight. However, if this is of interest to you, please advise in the suggestion box below, and we will advise if this becomes available in the future.

What is your policy for under 18s?

When in the room, an adult must be present. We do provide visitor accounts with both adult and child permissions so that they can only access games based on their rating. However, it is the responsibility of accompanying adults to ensure that this is appropriate before playing.

What is provided in the room?

We provide amenities you’d expect in the hotel room, including a King Bed, Double Sofa-Bed, 55” Samsung TV with Apple TV, Armchair, Mini-Bar stocked with Red Bull and all your favourite beverages*, Popcorn Machine, Snacks*, Separate Bath and Shower, Bath Robes and Slippers. On top of all this, there is a top-of-the-line computer featuring dual Esport screen and Elgato streaming equipment and Nintendo Switch with 4 x pro controllers for multiplayer gaming.

How fast is the internet connection?

Fast! Speed tests have shown in excess of 800Mbps. However, guarantees cannot be made on connection to individual gaming servers.

Can I stream from the room?

Absolutely! View Hotel Melbourne Suite is set up perfectly for streamers. The computer is set up with Elgato streaming gear, and a high-speed internet connection within the hotel, plus, the pre-installed games mean you can be streaming your new content within minutes of checking into the hotel. The 55” Samsung TV with Apple TV also has Twitch and YouTube pre-loaded, so you can watch your favourite streams while you’re not gaming.

Is the room only for gamers?

Absolutely not! At 35 square metres, the large layout of the room means that you can enjoy a comfortable stay whether you are a gamer or not. The computer desk can be used by business professionals who need to work from the room, but of course, the gaming facilities are great to unwind once the work is done.

What if the game I want to play isn’t on the list?

We’re constantly adding new games to the library; if you don’t see something on our list, please email us on [email protected] to suggest or request it when making the booking, and we will investigate*. If you own the game already, it can be installed during your stay; with extremely good download speed, it is ready to play promptly. It won’t just be AAA games on the games list, we will also be endeavouring to populate with Australian indie game developers’ projects such as Untitled Goose Game, Cult of the Lamb and Stray Gods.
